Spring 2012 Office Hours (January 30-April 30):
Wallace Atrium
Mondays, 9:30-11:30 AM

As the HNFE librarian, I am here to serve the faculty, staff, and students of this department in any way that I can.  This means that I will receive book, journal, and database recommendations, schedule one-on-one research consultations, and develop course-specific research instruction sessions, among other things.  I am always open to new ideas and eager to start new projects.

I came to Virginia Tech in May 2010 from Louisiana State University (LSU), where I was the library liaison to the Human Nutrition and Food Division.  At LSU, I worked with faculty and students to incorporate the 2008 CADE Foundation Knowledge Requirements and Competencies into the Dietetics curriculum.  My collaboration on this project is described in an article entitled The Librarian:  A New Ingredient in the Recipe for Success in Dietetic Education that was published in the Summer 2009 issue of Dep-Line.

Before I became an information professional, I earned undergraduate and graduate degrees at the College of William & Mary and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, respectively.  My master's paper for my M.S. was entitled The Value of Values-Based Literature:  An Exploration of Librarianship's Professional Discussion of Core Values and is available via the UNC-SILS ETD repository.

My goal in starting this blog is to serve HNFE by delivering frequently and timely information so that members of this department will be able to accomplish their mission of delivering, translating, and disseminating health-related advances in the nutrition, food, and exercise sciences.  Check out the About This Blog section to read more about the projects and initiatives that have found a home in this blog.
